A historian, writer and political activist, Ransby’s work focuses on the civil rights movement and feminism. She is the author of the biography Ella Baker and the Black Freedom Movement: A Radical, Democratic Vision, and her writing has appeared in publications such as Miami Herald, Detroit Free Press and The Progressive. Ransby directs the campus-wide social justice initiative and gender and women’s studies program at UIC.
