Prior to becoming director of grants administration at the Lumina Foundation, Dr. Susan D. Johnson held other positions at universities that built her base of knowledge about policies and practices affecting student success and engagement as well as institutional accountability. Through her work with Lumina, a private foundation focused on access and opportunity for postsecondary education, Johnson is involved in the philanthropic sector. She currently serves on the Grantmakers for Education Board of Directors, the Higher Education Resource Services Board of Directors, and the executive team of Indiana Blacks in Philanthropy. She is the co-editor of Standing on the Outside Looking In: Underrepresented Students’ Experiences in Advanced Degree Programs.
