UNC Trustees to Vote on Nikole Hannah-Jones Tenure Case This Week

University of North Carolina’s Board of Trustees will vote on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones’ tenure case – a controversial case that’s received national attention and criticism – on Wednesday, The Daily Tar Heel reported. The board will hold a livestreamed full board special meeting.

Hannah-Jones’ legal team announced last week she will not join UNC faculty unless offered tenure.

Student Body President Lamar Richards submitted a formal meeting request to the board Wednesday for a meeting by or on Jun. 30 to act on the case.

“I make this formal petition for a special called meeting for the sake of our University’s future, not as the sole corrective measure for inclusion efforts on campus but as the first step to ignite this critical phase of bolstering inclusion for Carolina,” he said in an email obtained by NC Policy Watch.
